Description

A Shark Spotter actively monitors the seas at numerous popular beaches and uses a flag warning system to communicate sightings to the public.

Typical Job Activities

Sees to the needs of both people and white shark conservation by pro-actively reducing the interaction and conflict between recreational water users and sharks
Gets the life savers to sound the alarm and clear the water when a shark is identified in the area
Works closely with life savers
Strategically positioned at elevated points above popular swimming and surfing beaches
Uses polarised sunglasses and binoculars so that they scan the water and act as an early warning system for potentially dangerous sharks coming close to shore
Provides shark safety to the public
Provides first aid assistance to those that need assistance

Educational Requirements

Senior Certificate with matric exemption
