A Water Service Works Operator manages the purification process of removing harmful household and industrial substances from water.
Typical Job Activities
Waste water is transported by drainpipes from houses and industries to water purification works. There the water service works operator:
Manipulates
pumps, valves and other equipment to extract impurities from the water
Interprets readings on the meters to ensure a smooth running process
Controls the addition of chemicals to purify the water
Takes samples of the water to be analysed in the laboratory
Repairs pumps and valves if necessary
Supervises workers responsible for maintaining the plant and cleaning the tanks
and canals
Performs basic administrative tasks
