Description

A Warehouse Storeman controls the flow of stock through a warehouse, monitors goods in and out, safely and efficiently moving and handling items and keeping stock records.

Typical Job Activities

Goods in
Loading and unloading goods from delivery vans or Lorries:
Checks that the correct quantity and type of goods have been received
Records any damaged, missing or faulty goods
signs the delivery form, once satisfied that the goods are complete
Moves the goods to the correct area in the warehouse, either manually or using mechanical handling equipment
Labels goods
Storages & Stock Controls

Allocating storage space to goods:
Relocates and re-stacking goods to make space for a new delivery
Keeps records (often computerized) of goods, their location and quantity
Re-orders if stock levels fall too low

Goods out
Picking goods that have been ordered:
Keeps records of goods which have been picked
Prepares dispatch notes and labels
Moves and stacking goods ready for delivery, either by hand or using machinery

General Responsibilities

Compliance with security procedures and health & safety
Maintains the warehouse in a tidy state and clearing away packing material and debris
Uses computerized systems, barcode scanners and other technology to record goods movement

In addition to these duties, some warehouse assistants may have additional responsibility for:

Liaising with manufacturers, distributors and customers:
Arranges carriage or actually delivering goods to the customer or outlet
Quality controls of goods in and/or goods out
Maintains of stable conditions or temperatures (e.g. for perishable food items, chemicals or drugs)

A grade 12 Certificate
3 to 5 year experience in Stores operations
Certificate in stock controlling course
Willingness to further your studies in invoicing, data capturing and also management
Code 10 Drivers License
