Description

A Radiographer applies X-rays, radioactive substances or ultrasound to patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The radiographer works at the request of a qualified doctor or dentist.

Typical Job Activities

There are four categories of radiography:
Diagnostic radiography: The radiographer captures x-ray images of the human body on film or other media using sophisticated x-ray equipment
Therapeutic radiography: The radiographer localises, plans and administers radiation for the treatment of diseases, mostly cancer
Nuclear medicine: Radioactive nuclides are used to capture diagnostic images of the anatomy and physiology of the patient
Ultrasound: Images of the human body are recorded using equipment which generates high-frequency sound waves. The radiographer may also be involved in administration, personnel management or teaching
