Job Title - Geologist
Description
Geology is the study of the structure, composition and history of the earth.
Typical Job Activities
The geologist locates and obtains specimens to investigate by drilling and collecting samples. The physical and chemical properties of the samples are then examined in a laboratory. When this is completed, the geologist writes a report on the results of the investigations.
Geological research may help in locating mineral deposits, predicting earthquakes, and advising on the suitability of sites for buildings, dams and highways. The knowledge obtained is also used in a wide variety of ways - from the plastering on walls of buildings (where lime and other mixtures are used), to the discovery and refinement of oil and other energy sources.
