Description
A Food and Beverage Manager is responsible for the overall operation of a restaurant. A food and beverage manager is also responsible for hiring staff, purchasing food and stock, and making sure everyone is trained on proper food preparation, proper and legal alcoholic beverage service kitchen safety techniques and understands health standards.
Typical Job Activities
Manages shifts as and when required
Be involved in the setting of department targets and objectives, and to monitor and strive for their achievement
Be proactive in maximising sales and generating revenue
Generates new ideas for service and products to maintain competitive and leading edge, focussing on creativity and flair
Controls costs in line with budgetary requirements
Liaises closely with all departments and in particular the kitchen teams to ensure effective communication between Front of House and Back of House, enabling maximum guest satisfaction through the smooth running of the operation
Makes sure all licensing regulations are fully adhered to
Makes sure all operational control procedures and policies are in place
Makes sure that the beverage profit margins are maintained at all times
Involved in the settings of services and quality standards, and to monitor and strive for their achievement

Educational Requirements
Senior Certificate with matric exemption for a degree course
Senior Certificate for a diploma course Grade 9 Certificate and a minimum age of 16 years for a technical (FET) college course
Compulsory subjects: Mathematics
