Description

The Credit Controller works in the financial department and is responsible for opening new accounts and monitoring the monthly payment thereof.

Typical Job Activities

Prepares and sends invoices on credit accounts
Assists clients
Makes sure credit invoices are settled
Checks to see if new customers qualify for credit
Checks to see how much credit new clients can get
Makes sure info on customers’ invoices is correctly entered onto computer
Checks and verifies all the info
Makes sure outstanding credits are applied to new invoices
Makes sure info is up to date
Sends invoices and other information directly to client/customer
Opens and closes accounts
Manages the collection of outstanding monies

Educational Requirements

Courses in bookkeeping or accounting will help you get ahead at a Technikon.

Some Credit Controllers will have University degrees in Mathematics, Economics or Finance and others have experience in Call Centre in a finance department. You will need good computer literacy skills as most financial departments are all computerised.
