Careers in tech are a dime in a dozen, and when you land your dream job, it's a story worth sharing. These techies spread some inspiration with their success stories.

Jobs in tech may come in dozens, but finding the right one for you can be tricky. You may have to be fluent in HTML, or have a knack for creating attractive website pages. Maybe you have an interest in building mobile applications or you want to test the waters with IT support.

1. Meet UI Designer, Marlin Jackson

He’s a UI Designer by trade, currently working as a Front-End Developer. Marlin is responsible for building and developing websites and applications using various web technologies. To be successful in his job, Marlin says it’s important to stay on top of international design and code trends. “I’m motivated by my desire to always improve the quality and value of the web user’s experience,” he says.

2. Meet Michael Dube, iOS & Mac OSX Developer

Michael knew right from his early days at university that he wanted to make games. After completing his degree with Honours in Computer Science, Mathematics and Game Design, Michael got his foot in the gaming industry at a small games studio in Cape Town, where he learnt more about mobile development. Michael enjoys that the mobile platform is constantly changing. “I love how these changes keep me motivated to learn. That constant challenge means I’m never bored and future job roles can pop up overnight.”

3. Meet Halatedzi Matidza, Android Developer

Halatedzi is an Android Developer at one of Africa’s leading online services and digital publishing brands. His passion has always been gaming and technology. After completing his Computer Science degree, Halatedzi soon realised that a career in information technology could offer him much more. “I can change the way people go about their day for the better, and what better way to do that than through their most personal asset, their mobile device?”

4. Meet Tony Mamacos, Senior Software Developer

As a Software Engineer, Tony is responsible for writing computer programmes used for running everything; from systems which allow computers to run properly to the latest software applications for mobile devices. His programming skills have enabled Tony to gain experience in telecoms, shipping and finance and sales. His advice for aspiring software engineers: “There are so many resources online these days so pick a language and get going. Build up a portfolio of small applications that can automate your life or those of the people around you. Load it up into an online resource and make it open source, participate and ask questions on forums. This will give you a great repository to show your first potential employer.”
