With around 41 000 employees worldwide, BHP Billiton is the biggest mining company in the world. The enterprise focusses mostly on the mining of coal, copper, iron ore and petroleum. In addition, they pride themselves on their social and environmental responsibility.

Eskom

Another great place to work at is Eskom Holdings. They generate, transport and distribute around 95% of all the electricity in South Africa. The company is the world’s eleventh-largest power utility when it comes to generating capacity, it’s the world’s ninth-largest in terms of sales and the firm holds the largest dry-cooling power station in the world.

Employees give Eskom Holdings a superb 8/10 overall score as a company to work at and at least 70% of the workers would recommend the company to a friend as a good place to work. Sasol

Sasol is an integrated energy and chemical company and is internationally active in 37 countries, employing over 34 000 people. For over 60 years they have tried to be a pioneer in innovation and have improved their methods, facilities and products often to make sure they keep up with the market’s expectations. They develop and commercialise technologies, and build and operate facilities to produce a range of product streams like liquid fuels, low-carbon electricity or high-value chemicals for instance. 

They have been listed as one of the Top 50 Most Valuable Brands by Brand Finance and as one of the Top Employers by the Top Employers Institute. Overall their employees rate the business with a solid 7/10. As much as 67% of the workers would recommend a job at Sasol to their friends and 90% approves of the CEO. What the employees appreciate most is the apprenticeship program, the vacation and paid time off and the possibilities for maternity and paternity leave.

Transnet Engineering

Transnet Engineering is part of Transnet SOC Ltd, and has 8 product-focussed businesses, 7 factories and 150 depots in the railway industry and employs around 15 000 people all over the country. They focus on manufacturing, upgrading conversion, repair and maintenance of railway rolling stock and transport equipment. Many of the Transnet Engineering plats have received Centres of Excellence Awards and accreditation by Original Equipment Manufacturers.
