While some people will not think twice about visiting Limpopo, the former Northern Province is well-known for its tourist attractions.
Limpopo which is named after the Limpopo River is a land of beautiful and contrasting landscapes, which is typical of South Africa. However, what makes this land unique is the fact that it is the gateway to three neighbouring countries: Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe – making it the perfect destination for economic cooperation with other parts of Southern Africa. While Limpopo may be less of a tourist attraction opposed to its neighbour Mpumalanga, its majestic mountain ranges and untamed landscapes, make it a firm favourite among travel enthusiasts seeking the road less travelled.
Those who have had the pleasure of visiting Limpopo or know a thing or two about its tourist attractions will tell of the small gems hidden in the former Northern Province. Apart from its abundant wildlife, Limpopo is big on tourism - so big that the tourism industry is one of three of Limpopo’s primary economy contributors. Places such as Magoebaskloof also known as The Land of the Silver Mist and the Sunland Farm, where the Sunland Baobab (considered the largest baobab in South Africa), offer inspiration to many travellers.

Mining also contributes to more than a fifth of Limpopo’s provincial economy. Its mineral deposits include platinum group metals, iron ore, chromium high- and middle-grade cooking coal, diamonds, antimony, phosphate and copper, as well as mineral reserves including gold, emeralds, scheelite, magnetite, vermiculite, silicon and mica. In terms of trade, the province, like many in South Africa exports primary products and imports manufactured goods and services.
Over and above that, Limpopo is well known for its rich cultural heritage. Visitors to the province can expect to find woodcarvers, potters, beadwork, and even a Rain Queen, a female ruler of the Modjadji people said to have power to bring rain.
