Working in accounting can bring you to places you have always dreamed of as a child, and bring you in contact with the biggest stars.

As an accountant your work is very monotonous, sitting at a desk all day filling in spreadsheet after spreadsheet after spreadsheet after spreadsheet…  At least, that’s what we imagine.

This line of work has a very bad reputation. But working with numbers all day can in fact be a really cool job.

We’ve compiled a list of jobs that make accounting seem like a lot of fun!

Sports accountant

Always dreamed of working for your favourite sports club? Sports accountants are doing just that. As a matter of fact, your beloved team is actually a big business, and the players are basically employees.

Sports accountants take care of the budgets for, among other things, marketing, sports equipment and all kinds of merchandising. They are also in charge of the payroll and cash flow and their work varies a lot depending on the time of year. For instance, during the preparation of a new season versus during mid-season breaks will see you working with different priorities.

Perks of the job include being co-worker to your idols and scoring free tickets for every single game.

Forensic accountant

Think of all your favourite murder investigation series, but replace the DNA evidence with figures. A forensic accountant is basically a money detective. He or she tracks all the paper trails, investigates fraud, analyses the financial evidence and puts all the findings in reports to help catch the bad guys.

They often have to testify in court to give expert explanations about dodgy transactions. This also means that a forensic accountant has to be familiar with a range of legal concepts and procedures to be able to separate right from wrong.

Corporate entertainment accountant

Were you secretly thinking about the huge amounts of money a sports accountant deals with on a daily basis? That’s probably nothing compared to the amount of money that goes into today’s Hollywood blockbuster movies.

A corporate entertainment accountant is the person that will oversee these budgets. They will manage, for example, the payroll, oversee the investments, the taxes and the insurances needed. Next to working for film studios, they could also be hired by TV studios, record labels and production companies, or work as a personal accountant or business manager for some of the biggest stars in music, film, etc.
