A Fitter manufactures, constructs, assembles and fits components for machinery, vehicles, installations and other apparatus or articles.
Typical Job Activities
Selects and marks off the material required according to exact measurements on blueprints, drawings or a model
Shapes the rough piece of metal into its final form with power-operated tools such as lathes, milling, drilling and planning machines
Fits the parts to complete the machine or article required
Inspects and tests the final assembly for true fit
Is a highly skilled craftsman whose trade is essential to most industries
