Here is where all your money goes

(Visual.ly)

An infographic that depicts how South Africans spend their salaries.

Interestingly, South Africans spend most of their money on housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels. Another big chunk is spent on transport. Furthermore, this is how they spend the rest:

  • 14,7% is spent on miscellaneous goods and services
  • 12,8% is spent on food and non-alcoholic beverages
  • 5,1% is spent on furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the dwelling
  • 3% is spent on clothing and footwear
  • Another 3% is spent on recreation and culture
  • 2,8% is spent on communication
  • Only 2,7% is spent on education
  • 2,4% is spent in restaurants and on hotels
  • A mere 1,4% is spent on health
  • And 1.1% is spent on alcoholic beverages and tobacco products

As the urban hub of the country, the infographic also shares interesting (and quite surprising!) stats on Johannesburg’s unique spending habits too.
