An Information Technology Manager is responsible for the maintenance of IT strategies. As an IT Manager you would have to lead and manage staff, research and develop new tech strategies.

Duties and responsibilities of an IT Manager include:

  • As an IT Manager you’ll have to coach, counsel, monitor, plan, initiate and co-ordinate your team, strategies and procedures.
  • Sustains the company’s efficiency and effectiveness by defining and delivering on strategic plans for developing and implementing IT.
  • IT Managers are responsible for directing tech research by knowing the company’s goals, practices and strategies.
  • Verifies application results by conducting system audits of technologies implemented.
  • Ensures that all projects are completed by deadline by co-ordinating with other departments
  • Completes projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments and data centre.

 Skills needed include: Data centre management, quality management, problem solving, advanced technical understanding, strategic planning and great analytical skills

  • Starting salary R309K for 0 – 5 years of experience
  • The average IT Manager will earn a salary of between R160k – R709k, depending on the size of the organisation.
  • IT Managers based in Johannesburg will earn an average of 18% more than the national average of R 413k
  • IT Managers based in Cape Town earn the least – 20% below the national average rate.
  • Only 8% of IT Managers are female
