The top employers to work for in South Africa in 2018

The Top Employers Institute has released its list of the best companies to work for in South Africa in 2018.

The Top Employers Institute released their top companies list, and an additional 15 new companies made it to the list. The annual research recognises employers that offer the best working conditions for their employees, including those that nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the company.

Companies are evaluated on 9 key areas: talent strategy, workforce planning, on-boarding learning and development, performance management, leadership development, career and succession management, compensation and benefits and culture.

Old Mutual, Ernst & Young (EY Africa) and SAP, made the top of the list, with each company rated first, second and third, respectively. The key trend that emerged among the top employers was that the companies empower employees to take control of their development.

In other words, these companies are moving away from development plans that are directed by managers, and they're encouraging employees to take ownership of their own development and careers.

This year, 108 companies made the list and were given South African certification. In South Africa, 10 employers were identified by the Top Companies Institute. To make the cut, top employers had to be certified in a minimum of 4 African countries.
